There have been many designer dog breeds that have become quite popular. The newest of these breeds is the Pomsky.
This is a dog that is a cross between the Siberian husky and the Pomeranian. Many people have been falling in love with these dogs.
Similar to their Pomeranian parents, the dogs tend to be fluffy and cuddly. However, it is difficult to tell from the puppy stage how large the dog will be when fully grown.
Most of the pomskies tend to run on the small side, similar to the Pomeranian and less like the larger size of the Husky.
If you are thinking about purchasing a Pomsky, there are several things that you will want to consider. Here are some questions that you should ask before buying a pomsky.
1. How Big will the Pomsky Get?
Many people who are interested in Pomskies want them because they love the looks of the Husky, but do not want to deal with the large size of the dog.
When searching for your new puppy you will likely find sellers that state their dogs will only weigh about 5 pounds when they are fully grown.
However, you should avoid purchasing a dog from a seller that makes this claim as it is likely a scam.
On average, the smallest pomskies will weigh at least 15 pounds. One of the ways to determine about how much the puppy will weigh is to add the weights for both the parents and then divide it in half.
If one of the parents weighs 40 pounds and the other weighs 10 pounds, the total of the 2 dogs is 50 pounds and when you divide it in half you get 25 pounds.
This is about how much the puppies should weigh when they are fully grown on average.
The Pomsky puppy typically will have the beautiful coat of their Husky parent that will be a mix of white, black, and grey. The coats of the puppies are silky, soft, and long.
The faces are narrow and fox like and their ears are pert. This all adds up to one of the cutest and most gorgeous dogs that you will ever find.
2. How Much Will the Pomsky Cost?
The price of a pomsky puppy will vary based on the breeder. Typically, the average cost for these puppies range from $2000 to $3500.
This price may or may not include the cost of shipping. There are some breeders online that will ship the dogs to you, no matter where you live.
When considering having a puppy shipped from out of state you will want to make sure that they are going to ship the dog in a manner that is safe.
Make sure that you ask how long it will take for you to receive your puppy and how it will be shipped to you.
It is important to make sure that all of the laws are being followed when it comes to shipping a live animal.
If you find one of these puppies for sale at a price that seems too good to be true, chances are it probably is.
There are many people that try to scam potential buyers for this breed, especially now that they have grown in popularity. Researching the breeder is extremely important.
Since pomskies are so expensive, you may also want to consider getting a pet insurance for your puppy.
3. What Supplies Do I Need for a Pomsky?
When you bring home a pomsky, there are a few home improvements that you are going to need to make in order to make sure that your new dog is safe.
Remember, your puppy is going to be very curious, so there are some things that you will need to remove from your home to keep him or her safe.
If your home has hardwood floors you are going to need to make sure that they are sealed. The entire house should be dog proofed. This means that breakable objects, rugs, chemicals, and plants, should be removed as they could be destroyed by the puppy.
Your new puppy is going to need enough space to exercise, but it is okay to limit the dog to certain areas of the house.
You can use playpens, baby gates, and other such devices in order to limit where they can roam!
It is also important to make sure that you have the appropriate supplies for your new pet.
A dog will need to have a comfortable place to sleep. A cheap puppy bed is appropriate, but be aware that they will likely chew on it and ruin it.
Stainless steel dog bowls are recommended as the puppy cannot chew through them.
Other supplies to consider and ask about include leashes, collars, and toys.
Talk to a professional about these supplies as they will be able to recommend the best types of collars and leashes for the Pomsky breed.
4. Does a Pomsky Shed?
One of the other things to consider when purchasing a pomsky is the fact that these dogs will shed.
They shed a lot of hair and you will need to be prepared for this. They go through shedding periods 2 times a year and each one lasts about 90 days. Their coats are long and thick and a large amount of hair can be shed from this tiny dog.
When considering any type of dog or other pet, it is important to make sure that you are ready for the responsibility.
A Pomsky is a special breed of dog and you will want to make sure that you are ready for the costs involved in taking care of this type of dog.

Is the white dog a Pomsky? I just lost my Best Friend Angel an American Eskimo and the white one looks so much like him. No pointy ears.
April 4, 2015
Hi Debbie,
So sorry to hear that, yes the white dog is a pomsky, hope you’ve found a new dog.

I just got a pomsky a month ago she’s supposedly 3 months. She had vaccines but the card has no information on her. she’s already 10 inches tall (feet to sholder) isn’t she to big to be a pomsky? She weighs 8 pounds i’m afraid I got lied to and I really bought a husky for twice the price ?
November 16, 2015
Hey Brenda,
Sorry to hear about the situation you’re in, luckily it doesn’t seem like you bought a Husky for twice the price but to confirm could you send in a few pictures and also the information of the breeder that you purchased the dog from?

December 16, 2015
People should really think before they purchase. It’s hard enough to get a Pomeranian that will only grow to 5lbs… A Pomeranian husky is going to be bigger. Maybe years down the line the breed could get smaller but it is a new breed and huskies are large dogs. Pomeranians were originally bred from spitz dogs they are standard 3-7 lbs but a lot get bigger and they can get as large as 25lbs and are referred to as a “throw back” to their spitz ancestors

Hey Erin,
I agree that people need to consider a lot of things before getting a Pomsky, thanks for sharing this!

I have a beautifully cute almost 10 month old pomsky. Rule of thumb given is a good one. I was told her dad (should always be the Pom) was 15 lbs and mom was 40. She is 28.6 lbs or roughly half of parents combined weight. Very curious and active but also very sweet yet playful disposition. She’s irreplaceable! She looks like an arctic fox as she has white underside but very Pomeranian reddish brown fox like top coat with a lil black mixed in.

Hey Rich,
Great to know that the rule of thumb worked out for you!

August 22, 2016
The are a double coated breed, just like Pomeranians and Huskies. They will blow their coat just the same.

I have been trying to search for reliable pomsky breeders on the web but am having difficulty finding one that will give me the smallest dog possible and still looks like a husky even when full grown. I was just wondering if you could tell me about some reliable pomsky breeders.

January 2, 2016
Hey Riley,
If you have a Husky you can probably handle a Pomsky too, but you should make sure you have enough space for both dogs. Talk it over with your parents and if you guys are looking to buy one you can check out our puppies for sale page and breeders list! Here are the links: https://pomeranian-husky.com/list-of-pomsky-breeders/ and https://pomeranian-husky.com/pomsky-puppies-for-sale/

I got a Pomsky last summer. She’s about a year and a half and she’s 30lbs. People don’t believe she’s a Pomsky but I’m sure she is. She doesn’t look like a Pomeranian at all.

Hey Cleo,
Do you think you could send us some pictures? Also did the breeder provide you with any paperwork or DNA tests?

-Emma
January 25, 2016
Hey Emma,
Owning a Pomsky is just like owning any other dog, but be aware they do shed a lot! It might not be best for you to get another dog if your dog just had puppies, I think you should talk it over with your parents first!
Hope I helped, and if you have anymore questions don’t hesitate to comment again or visit our contact page.

Can pomskys be all black if the dad is a black pomeranian?
June 21, 2016
Hi Mariana,
Short answer yes, it’s possible. But the determination of fur color is actually very complicated subject. Even if the both parents are black, their offspring necessarily isn’t.

Hi Everyone!
I’m not a Pomsky owner, but I stumbled upon this site and wanted to give my (irrelevant) two cents, so feel free to ignore more. But I wish that people would consider the health issues involved in breeding two such different sized dogs. It’s not very kind for the animal.

Pomskies are actually artificially bred. Check the related article here:

I recently got a Pomsky, I already own one btw. The one I owned already is 6 months & 16 lbs. the boy we just got is 3 months & weighed in today at 20 lbs… I’m afraid he’s going to get 40 lbs!!!! Is he a Pomsky or a husky? He definitely looks more husky… But 20 lbs already?! My girl kept growing so I’m concerned he will hit 40+ lbs…
July 1, 2016
Hi,
That’s unfortunate to hear. Would be quite big for a Pomsky, but of course I cannot say for sure. You may want to call the breeder and sort it out.

Hi Everyone,
I have been considering getting a pomsky but wanted to know if they would be suitable for apartment living? I am a very outdoor’s person however, my concern is the size of course. I hate seeing large dogs kept inside all day in a small apartment. Any advice? I live in South Florida.

July 3, 2016
Hi Kimberly,
Of course it would be better if you’d have a big house. But if the dog gets exercise several times a day, I don’t see living in an apartment a problem. After all, they wouldn’t be running around all day anyways. But maybe that’s just me. 🙂

What people need to understand is that with a mixed breed, you’re never going to be guaranteed anything. Your dog could grow up to be small or it could grow to be huge. Since there is no breed standard for “pomskies”, I would take any breeder promises with a grain of salt. If you like the look of a smaller husky, you should read up on the Alaskan Klee Kai and see if it would be a good fit.
July 5, 2016
Hi Clare,
Thanks for comment! It’s true that you should be very careful when choosing a legitimate breeder. Even then there is a possibility you’ll get something different than you expected.

Hi i’m Samantha and i’m 11, i really want a pomsky for my birthday or for christmas, but my parents don’t want another dog. I already have a dog, but we divide the chores for her between my brother and I. Do you think I can handle I dog by myself, if so how do I convince my parents to get me one?
July 21, 2016
Hi Samantha,
It’s great that you already have a dog and can take care of her! I think it would be best, if you’d focus on her and show your parents how great you are with dogs. Maybe it will convince them to get you a pomsky too, when you’re bit older.

I’m 10 years old and I want a pomsky. I already have a 7 year old collie, but I want a cute little dog that can sit in my lap. My collie is huge and my parents are trying to tell me that they won’t get along well. Do you think a little pomsky would get along with my 2 foot (from floor to withers) collie?
September 1, 2016
Unfortunately there’s no way to tell. Generally yes, but dogs are just like people. Nobody really gets along with everyone. If for example both dogs aim to be the dominant one, you will have problems. How does your collie like other dogs in general?

My Canadian bred F1 pomsky is 28.8 lbs at 5.5 months of age. He is going to get bigger than I expected as he will definitely be over 30 lbs. His dad was 11 lbs and his mom was 38 lbs so we were expecting a 25 – 30 lbs pomsky. It’s too bad that comments that people have already left do not mention what generation their on pomsky is. The higher the generation, the more Pomeranian genetics which gives you a greater chance for a smaller pomsky.
However, in my opinion, the F1s make a better looking pomsky as the F2s and higher can really start looking like Pomeranians again!

We have a pomsky now a year and three months and she is all white and looks like a bigger version of our american eskimo who is 22 pounds. The pomsky ended up weighing about 35 pounds still a very loving dog. The mother was fifty-five pounds and the dad was five pounds. So far she has been an excellant addition to the family. Great with the older dogs and younger child we have.

Hey! I have a 6 1/2 month old pomsky. This website said they shed a lot but my pup barely sheds.. you could pet her with a wet hand and her fur will stay on her! So, it really does depend on the pomsky. Sometimes you get lucky. We’re planning on breeding her after her during her second heat. She looks exactly like a husky, I can hardly tell she’s 50% Pom.
(Before you ask, we did A DNA test.)

I came across an ad from Bell Pomskies and am wondering if they’re scammers. They’re located in Richardson, Texas, and are selling their pups for $350 plus $200 shipping. After reading your site and seeing pups typically listed for 10X this much, I have to wonder if Bell Pomskies is legit. I can’t find them on your site list of breeders, which makes me even more suspicious.
Have you ever heard of Bell Pomskies? If so, are they scammers or reliable?
Thanks for your input.
